Advice for Recent Grads Seeking Employment

Hey everyone,

*sighs* so is it really this hard to find a decent job after dedicating the past 4 years of my life to studying and massive amounts of student debt?

As a recent grad, I understand the struggle of job hunting. Searching for a job is a job within itself. Over the past few months I had to take a breather and realize that I’m not the only one struggling with this transition. I had to learn to be patient with myself and my process, so now I will share a few tips that have helped me

Advice for Recent Grads:

Graduating college is such an exciting moment but can also be very scary if you don’t know what’s next. Post grad life requires a lot of planning and preparing. You have to find a job and not just any job, but it’s the pressure and stigma of finding a job in your field that pays enough to maintain your desired lifestyle. Some are fortunate to land that dream job right after school, while others are not so fortunate. So here is my advice for recent grads who are struggling to find work.

Build Your Experience/Expand Your Knowledge

Build you resume with relevant experience. Use this time to learn as much about your field as you can. Instead of focusing on not having a job do everything you can to prepare for the job you want. Make sure you have the necessary skills so when the job comes, you are fully prepared. Research, learn a new task, keep growing and advancing.

We’ve all heard the quote, “it’s not about what you know but who you know.” Sometimes just having a degree isn’t enough. Talk to others who are established in your desired field, attend networking events, speak to strangers, build your connections. Put yourself out there, don’t be afraid to speak up, sometimes it can make all the difference.

Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself

This can be a difficult time especially when everyone around you seems to be getting jobs, moving into new homes, and even relocating to new states. It mays seem like you are stuck or at a standstill but don’t let comparison steal your joy. Enjoy where you are at that moment and wait on your opportunity. Also remember that you can’t control the timeline of your job search, all you can do is apply, and prepare yourself until your moment comes but DON’T give up. You’ll eventually start that career and land that perfect job, in due time. Just be persistent and prepare!!

Until next time.
