Dressing stylishly doesn’t have to be expensive.
Check out places where prices are lower, such as flea markets and yard sales where sellers are more willing to negotiate. Thrift stores and consignment shops are also great places to find fashionable clothing and accessories. Another place you can try are outlet stores, they sell designer brands at a lower price.
Almost every time I go to thrifting I find great deals. Plato’s Closet is one of my favorite consignment shops because it sells only popular brands and items that you’d see in a mall, such as Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, and American Apparel. You can also sell your old clothes to them, so whenever I get tired of looking at what’s in my closet I take them to Plato’s and buy new clothes.
That’s a win-win situation: You get paid for clothes you were going to throw out anyway in exchange for modern clothing and accessories at discount prices.
Shopping online is another great alternative, it not only saves you money but time as well. Instead of hopping from store to store, you get the convenience of finding fashionable clothes from the comfort of your home. You can use tablets, smartphones, or computers and laptops to place orders and it will be shipped to you. Some people may prefer the in-store experience to online shopping, but if your schedule is tight, you’ll appreciate the convenience.
One advantage to shopping online is that there are thousands of websites to choose from. Another plus is that fewer people will have the same exact outfit as you, as opposed to going somewhere like Forever 21, which is popular among adolescent females. I don’t know about you, but I dislike looking identical to anyone and feeling like I’m mimicking how they dress.
When the season changes, retailer are looking to get rid of inventory, often at discounted prices. The gear may be a year old by the time you can wear it again, but think of the money you’ve saved. That’s a no-brainer in any discount shopper’s book. I buy off season clothing and accessories all the time. It is such an easy way to build up your wardrobe for only a fraction of the price. When next season comes around you’ll be best dressed.
When shopping, be innovative and original. You don’t have to follow trends or buy clothes just to fit in with the crowd- buy what you enjoy. When bargain and thrift shopping you may notice some items can be recreated with a little originality and an eye for fashion. Think outside the box. You don’t have to spend tons of money to be stylish. Just shop smart.
